Selina is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a deep-rooted passion for compassionate, patient-centered care. With over 15 years of experience in various therapeutic settings, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective to her practice.
Throughout her career, Selina has developed robust expertise in treating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and PTSD, primarily serving adolescents aged 12 and up, as well as teenagers and adults. She also has experience working with Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) patients. Selina is a member of EMDRIA, having completed basic training in EMDR, and is currently working towards becoming EMDR Certified. In addition to EMDR, she practices a blend of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Positive Psychology, Person-Centered Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She has also completed Perinatal Mental Health Training. Selina is trained in Substance Use Disorder and Medication-Assisted Therapy. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and holds certifications in Social & Behavioral Research (CITI) and as a SYMBS Assessment Facilitator.
Selina believes in a collaborative therapeutic approach, empowering her clients to set and achieve their personal goals. When appropriate, she incorporates art to enhance the therapeutic process. Her approach is culturally competent, focusing on underserved populations, as evidenced by her volunteer work at Free Clinics through VTMHI and her commitment to community service as a consultant for the Healing Library. Currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology with a focus on Behavioral Health Leadership, Selina received her Bachelor's in Psychology from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, graduating Cum Laude. She holds two Master's degrees from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Healthcare Administration and Leadership Development, and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.
Originally from New Mexico, Selina has called Northern Virginia home for the past 25 years. When not engaged in her clinical practice or furthering her education, she enjoys spending time in her art studio, exploring nature, embarking on adventures, and playing guitar. Selina cherishes time spent with her family, friends, and her three dogs, constantly seeking new creative endeavors. Her dedication to mental health and the well-being of her community is at the core of her personal and professional life, making her a valuable practitioner and advocate for mental health.
